Women's Independent Access to Productive Resources: Fish Ponds in the Oxbow Lakes Project, Bangladesh

The paper analyzes the experience of women in acquisition of user rights in fish ponds; excavated on government-owned land. It concludes that fish ponds enabled women to generate higher per capita incomes than the usual small livestock activities, gain knowl edge of new methods of production, interact with traders and officials, and enhance their social and familial position.
