Yoruba Rural Women and Alley Farming

Studies on women farmers' adoption, use, and perceptions of alley farming are limited. Based on research with Yoruba women farmers in Oyo state, Nigeria, this article examines the social problems encountered by women in the adoption of alley farming and their major uses of alley trees. Nigerian women farmers are owners and operators in their own right, not only in agricultural productivity but also in non-farm work The article con cludes with strategies for achieving increased participation of women farmers in alley farming adoption.
